Is Bitmach partnered with Eskom?
No agreement has been announced. Eskom has said publicly that it is engaging bitcoin miners and developing a framework with Nersa, and on 31 August 2026 it confirmed that its response to a two to three gigawatt surplus includes a bitcoin mining pilot. It has not named a partner. Bitmach is developing its proposal for that programme.
Did you say Eskom could have mined 406,000 bitcoin?
Yes, as a simulation looking backwards. If Eskom had run about three million mining machines on surplus power from April 2020 to December 2024, the model shows more than 406,000 bitcoin, enough on its assumptions to cover an amount in the region of the utility's R422 billion debt. Moneyweb reported the model in March 2025, and the assumptions are stated wherever I present it.
What was the Coinbase grant?
In November 2023 Coinbase selected Sixpence, then Silver Sixpence, from more than 50 proposals for a grant from its proof-of-reserves developer programme to build open-source, zero-knowledge proof-of-reserves software with its engineers.
What was your role in the exchange proof-of-reserves reports of 2022?
I led the technical work behind the first proof-of-reserves engagements for Binance, KuCoin and Crypto.com, published in November and December 2022 with the auditing firm Mazars.
Did you write Auditing Bitcoin?
I wrote the foreword. The book, Auditing Bitcoin: A Framework for Digital Asset Assurance, is by Wiehann Olivier and Pieter Buys and was published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2026.
Do you provide training?
Yes. Executive-level training and workshops on digital assets, stablecoins and AI for central banks, regulators, governments, banks, virtual-asset service providers and intelligence services, from a half-day briefing to a multi-day programme. Programmes are quoted per engagement.
